The responsibilities of this position include monitoring and recording all aspects of groundwater production, disinfection, filtration, and distribution, also including the installation , maintenance, and repair of water lines, water leak detection, hydrant repair, valve maintenance, water taps, water meter replacement, meter reading, etc. Responsibilities also include the maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of the cities waste water collection system.
Operate equipment including but not limited to backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and sewer jet machine. This position will also perform manual labor including construction, repair and maintenance of city services and facilities; mowing, facility maintenance, street repair and sign maintenance; exposure to dust, fumes and loud noises that are routinely encountered in street and drainage maintenance operations. The position will assist other departments as necessary.
Candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, stoop, or twist for extended periods of time; work both inside and outside in all types of weather. Candidate must be able to communicate with employees and public in a courteous and diplomatic manner; must be able to be on “after hours” call rotation; ability to operate heavy equipment a plus. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience installing, repairing and servicing municipal water and wastewater systems, including experience operating heavy equipment. The candidate must possess a “C” groundwater license ,and “C” wastewater issued by TCEQ.
Education, training, experience
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, have 2 - 3 years of experience in all phases of municipal water line installation and maintenance, a valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment), have obtained Class ‘C’ water/waste water licenses from TCEQ and pass a criminal background check. The applicant must live within a 30 minute drive of the City of Flatonia or be able to meet this requirement within six (6) months of employment.
